Satori is a Japanese term often associated with Mahayana Zen Buddhism that refers to a sudden, profound experience of enlightenment or awakening. It's a moment when a person gains deep insight into the nature of existence and perceives reality in a new, often transformative way. Mahayana Zen Buddhism is a dialogic method that, among other things, aims to abolish the ego and transform an individual’s consciousness to embody all of existence as opposed to just that of the ‘self’ as a separate entity in the world. It suggests that the ego’s attachments and desires bind one to the wheel of life, which only results in chronic frustration, anxiety and suffering. The method of Mahayana Zen Buddhism is commonly known as walking ‘the middle way’ and is an individual process rather than a set list of principles and teachings. Because it is mainly concerned with consciousness and perception, its closest western equivalent is psychotherapy rather than any Abrahamic religion. VALYOU recommends listening to ‘Outwitting the Devil’ (short) and / or ‘Buddhism – The Religion of No-Religion’ (long) by Alan Watts on Youtube.

“A scholar tries to learn something new every day, a student of Buddhism tries to unlearn something every day.”
